About Rfn. James Hamilton
James Hamilton was born in Dunedin in 1889. His parents were William James Hamilton and Janet Hamilton (née Hamilton) who had married at Maryborough in Queensland, Australia on 1 January 1878. The family moved to New Zealand in around 1883, living first in Dunedin and then moving to Wellington. During World War I James served with the New Zealand Rifle Brigade, 1st Battalion. He was killed in action at Havrincourt in France on 12 September 1918. James was buried in the Fifteen Ravine British Cemetery. Bio by Debbie McCauley (12 April 2025).
