About Susannah Williamson

brief biography and family

Susannah was the daughter of Giles Carter Sr. and is named in his will.

Susannah Carter married Daniel Price.

  1. They had a child named Daniel Price.

The date for this marriage is uncertain, but possibly was around 1688/1689 based on her birth about 1671 and on birth of son Daniel about 1689. (Some records suggest this marriage was in 1676, but she would be too young.)

In 1692, Susan Williamson had petitioned for an order for the administration of the estate of Daniel Price, deceased, her late husband. In 20 Sep 1692, Giles Carter and Robert (X) Povall were securities for Susanna Price's administration on the estate of Daniel Price, deceased.

Susannah married Thomas Williamson before 1696 in Henrico County, Virginia.

The children of Susannah and Thomas Williamson were:

  1. John Williamson
  2. Hannah Williamson
  3. Cuthbert Williamson
  4. Richard Williamson
  5. Susannah Williamson
  6. Mary Williamson

On 01 June 1696 William Sewell and 2Theoderick Carter (Susanna's brother) offered themselves as security for the estate of the orphans of Daniel Price in the hands of Thomas Williamson (Henrico Co. Order Book 694-1701, p. 110).

Death

Her death was after April 1, 1718, when Thomas and Susannah Williamson of Varina Parish, Henrico Co., VA, sold 200 acres on the Chickahominy Swamp to Edmund Allen of Wilmington Parish, James City Co., Virginia and before August 5, 1728, when Thomas, alone, deeded land to children. (Henrico Co. VA Records pp. 67, 189.) [See husband's profile.]

Thomas and Susannah Williamson of Varina Parish, Henrico County sold 200 acres of land on Chickahomney bounded by Richard Woodson 1 Apr 1718, recorded 7 Apr 1718 (Henrico County, Virginia Records, p. 67). Susanna , wife of said Thomas Williamson, relinquishes dower (Vol 1714-1718, p. 249). She died sometime after this land sale.

The date is not certain, but she is mentioned in her father's will.[4] (Some personal family trees suggest 1699, but the basis is a submitted claim and not an original source. Also 1699 would be unlikely based on the number of children she had with Thomas.)

Research Notes
Some records from the Edmund West compilation and the Yates compilation available in Ancestry suggest birth dates of around 1671/1672, marriage to Daniel Price in 1676, and death in 1699. However, these compilations are not reliable in general as they are not based on original sources, and in this case in particular these dates are not consistent (marriage date of 1676 is not plausible, death date of 1699 is inconsistent with father's will information).
