Many of our readers will regret to hear that Mr Robert Cole died at his farm, Page’s Road, Glen-iti, yesterday. Mr Cole landed in Lyttelton in 1861, and was well known among the pioneers of the West Coast of this island. After leaving the Coast he came to Timaru, and for a long time was proprietor of the Old Bank Hotel. His health giving way he took a trip Home to get the best medical advice, and afterwards came out to Napier. His health still being very indifferent, he once more returned to Timaru, but never regained strength, and lingered on till yesterday miming. He leaves a widow and grown up family, his eldest son and daughter being married. The son (Mr George Cole) is now in business in Sydney. Deep sympathy is felt for the family in their bereavement. The late Mr Cole was possessed of a good deal of property in this district. The funeral takes place to-morrow afternoon. Source: South Canterbury Times (5 May 1892, p. 2)
