About Rabbi Aron (Aharon) Ha'Levi Tauber-Darnowitz
Rabbi Aron Tauber, aka Rabbi Aharon Ha'Levi Tauber, "gelehrten Vornehmen" [a learned and distinguished man] from Tarnowitz, Silesia, was the progenitor of the Tauber family that lived in Moravia and Bohemia. Through his older son, R. Löbl Tauber (b. c1702), he was the ancestor of the Taubers of Koritschan [Korycany], Holesov, and Gaya [Kyjov]. Through his next son, Rabbi Jacob Moses Tauber-Darnowitz (c1708-1786), he was the ancestor of the Taubers of Leipnik [Lipnik nad Becou] and Loschitz, Moravia [now Lostice, Czech Republic[ and Esztergom megye, Hungary. His youngest son, Jonas (1720-1793), lived in Prossnitz [Prostejov] and was the ancestor of the Tauber families of western Bohemia.
Aron is mentioned in Rabbi Hillel's history of the Jewish Families of Leipnik, Part I, as "R. Aron", the father of Rabbi Jacob Moses Tauber [aka Rabbi Jakow Darnowitz]. He himself was a Rabbi, as documented in a genealogy written by his great-grandson, Rabbi Aron Tauber (1778-1857) of Dunaszerdahely, Hungary, which laid out "10 generations of Rabbis" who preceded him. (Tragically, that work was destroyed in a fire and no trace of its contents remain.)
Aron lived most of his life in Tarnowitz [now Tarnowskie Gory, Poland], but spent his last years in Leipnik. He died about 1739.
