About Johanna ‘Hannah’ King

From Ancestral File (TM), data as of 2 January 1996.

!ERROR: According to an E-Mail message dated 18 Jul 1996, it is fairly obvious that the Scarborough's are NOT related to the Kings. While Robert may have married a Hannah or Johannah,

there is no evidence to support the idea

that Hannah was the daughter of Col. Edmund Scarborough!

She cannot, in fact, have been his daughter, as he would have been only thirteen years old when she was born.

Captain Edmund Scarburgh did have a daughter Hannah - but she is known to have married Col. John Wise.

Children of I. Robert (1) King and Johannah his wife: (or Hannah).

  • II. I. Robert King, Jr. Born in England and came into Virginia with his parents about or before 1662. Resided in Stafford County, Va. Died in Stafford County, Va. about 1690. Married Mary, with issue
  • 2 Richard King. Was born in England, came into Virginia about or before 1662 with his parents; not traced. He may have settled on the Maryland side of the Potomac.
  • 3. Elizabeth King. Was born in England and came into Virginia with her parents about or bofore 1662. She married Robert Ball of Westmoreland County, Va. Her descendants inherited land from her fathor Robert (1) King. (See abstracts of their peti- tions and doods).
  • 4. William King. Born in England and came to Virginia with his parents. He died in Stafford County, about 1703 leaving a will naming two sons.

Perhaps other children were born to Robert and Johannah King.

The will of Robert (1) King was presented to the Court of Westmoreland County, Virginia, in 1693 by Alexander Spense acting as attorney for Johannah, the widow and relict of said Robert King. Later doeds show the connections between the above children and their parents. Other children may have been named in his will. In fact it would seem that he did have other children and that the King families on the Maryland side of the Potomac were connected with this generation of the King family.
