Elizabeth Henderson Bell from #Virginia who made tents. .

Parents: "William and Susannah Henderson. William Henderson (1693-1770) was also an immigrant from Scotland and had been in Augusta County ca. 1740. Elizabeth was a sister of Florence who had earlier married Joseph's brother David." From Records of Dr. H.M. Wilson Collection of Bell Records. It is assumed she is interred near her husband in the Old Stone Church Burying Ground.

Joseph Bell was born in Augusta, Mary 25, 1742, and died there in 1823. Children: William, James, born, 1772, Joseph.

One Virginia colonial family was descended from Matthew Bell of Scotland and Ireland.

Joseph Bell, youngest son of Matthew Bell of Ireland and Pennsylvania, was born in Lancaster county, Penn., about 1714. With William Craig and others of Pennsylvania he moved to Augusta county, Va., in 1740, being one of the original settlers of the county.

He married Elizabeth Henderson of Augusta county. His children were:

2. Susan, married John Wayt;
3. Elizabeth married John Johnston of Eo- anoke;
4. James,
5. William A.,
6. Margaret and
7. John J.

Will of William Henderson. From Chalkley's Augusta County, Virginia Records: Page 350 - - 2nd September, 1770. William Henderson's will, aged about 71 years - - To wife; two sons, William and David Henderson; to son, James; to three sons-in-law, David and Joseph Bell and John Leeper; to Shusanna Henderson, daughter to son John Henderson; to Shusanna Finley, daughter to daughter Martha; to granddaughter, Jeen Teas. Executors, wife and brother, Samuel Henderson, and testator's son, James Henderson. Teate: Walter Davis, John Carlile. Proved, 20th November, 1770. by the witnesses. James Henderson qualifies executor, with Samuel Henderson, John Carlile.
