About Capt. John Worthley
John Worthley is a DAR Patriot Ancestor # A205923
Captain John Worthley served with Col. Edmund Phinney's Regiment, Massachusetts Militia during the American Revolution.
He served as a Captain in 3 divisions of the Revolutionary Army of 1776 and was a New Hampshire signer of the Declaration of Independence of 1776. They had twelve children.
"John Worthley (2) born December 1731 in. Litchfield, N.H., son of Thomas and Mehitable (Yarrow) Worthley, married November 9, 1758 to Martha Bailey, born Feb. 8, 1740, daughter of Robert and Martha (Millet) Bailey. She died June 14, 1817. He died June 7, 1810. He was a captain in the Revolutionary War and commanded a company known as Captain John Worthley's Company of North Yarmouth, Maine, of Colonel Edmund Phinney's Regiment of Foot 1775 and was also a captain of a company on Colonel Reuben Fogg's Militia Regiment in 1776. It is apparent from historical data that he went from Weare, N.H. to Maine, somewhere between 1755 and 1758 and located in North Yarmouth permanently and there raised a family of 10 children. He was a respected citizen, a faithful member of the Congregational Church, loyal to his country and his family. "
John died on Jun 7, 1810 in North Yarmouth, Massachusetts, United States, aged 78. He was buried in Pine Grove Cemetery, North Yarmouth, Cumberland County, Maine.[2]
