Baldwin Wake was the son of Hugh Wake, Seigneur de Négreville and Emma fitz Baldwin. He married Agnes du Hommet, daughter of William du Hommet. He died in 1198. He held the office of King's Constable in England. As well as Hereward's old lands at Witham and Barholm, he held Deeping, also in the Fens. Feudal Lord of Bourne. He was the benefactor of Bourne, Vandry, Longues, Mont St. Michael and Prudhomme Abbeys. Deeping St James or East Deeping, a village and a parish in Lincolnshire, on the river Welland, at the boundary with Northamptonshire, and 1 mile E of Market Deeping. Acreage, 4293; population, 1501.
