I just came across this quotation from Hall of Fame basketball coach Luigi "Geno" Auriemma and was surprised by it:
"Women's basketball coach? What kinda job is that for an Italian son? I shoulda been president. I'm Catholic, Italian, part-Jewish. How much guilt can you have?"
I wonder if anyone can find anything about this connection?
Auriemma was born in Montella, Avellino, Campania in 1954 and emigrated to the U.S. c. 1961.
The same interview talks about how Auriemma's father supported Mussolini and didn't believe Italian Jews had been murdered, so if a Jewish connection does exist, the family must've already been practicing Catholics during the war.
