For those of you who are trying to place Philip van Dijck with Gysbert op den Dyck of Wesel, Germany, you need to read this book published in 1889 about the op den Dyck family history. https://archive.org/details/opdyckgenealogyc1889opdy/mode/1up?view=...
It was well researched before either World War destroyed many records. In particular, I would direct you to look at chart #1. The only child mentioned of Gysbert op den Dyck and wife Maria Ryswick is Lodowick born 1565 in Wesel. There is NO Philip! Also read about Gysbert beginning on page 30. His life was well documented in Wesel -- he was never in Danzig where GRandma Online says Philip was born. He was also not in Leeuwarden where others are now claiming Philip was born.
If you are going to claim these things as facts, you need to provide some sources-- either links or uploaded photos of the information, Please for the sake of accuracy.
As per statement that the records could not have been lost in the 2 world wars, obviously that is correct. However various records have been lost over many centuries due to many other wars and unfortunate events. For example, significant war mongering by the Spanish in that era, affecting Wesel and surrounding areas, as well as the Netherlands. There was certainly no shortage of war in those times.
The reference for his birthplace that Grandma Online gives is the book: Ancestry of David Dick and Katharina Schmidt. When I search for the where abouts of this volume, I am directed to the Mennonite Historical Society of B.C. If there is someone in that locality who could access the book and get a photo of the page showing Philip Johann van Dijck, then upload it to sources here that would be great.
