Geni now allows you to find both blood and in-law connections. The first example is an in-law connection, the second is a blood relationship. (It still only shows one of each, usually the closest.)

Thank you Mavi . However, the blood turns into an inlaw which is baffling me. Blue for blood red for inlaw. But in many they change... ???

Annie, it's slightly more complicated. Geni's two paths are the shortest path and the straightest path, either can be a mixture of blood and in-law. A straight blood connection will be all blue, but a path going thru marriages can change colours an unlimited number of times.

I see. Apparently no one is able to see the full blue line of the bottom Gertrud Catharina Hansdotter Sagerbrück but the Gertrud Catharina Hansdotter Sagerbrück at the top suggests changes in colors through the inlaws for the same person. Seems incestuous to me and still don't get it but ok.

When you paste in this discussion thread there are no colours, if I were to look at Gerturd's profile I could see the colours.

Geni used to only display a single path between any two profiles and it was always the shortest path (ie least number of people) between the two profiles. This used to upset people who knew that there was a different connection than the one being displayed.

Attempting to appease this discontent Geni reconfigured the system to display 2 paths between profiles where one in based on shortest path and the other on least number of colour changes. There's no reason to suspect there is any incest on the path between Gertrude and yourself, there may be but you'd have to look closer than just these paths. I have a 8th(?) pair of 8th grandparents who were first cousins, but i wouldn't call their marriage incestuous. "Pedigree collapse" is a genealogical term connected to this but incest is really a very subjective term based on culture and legal codes.
