A biography of the self-styled Count Roehanstart (Rohan Stuart, aka Roehenstart) by George Sherburn (published in 1960), based on the subject’s private papers, sets out the extraordinary life of Charles’s secret grandson, who is buried at Dunkeld Cathedral. As Roehanstart had no children, nor, it was believed, did his sisters, there the Stuart direct (albeit illegitimate) line may have ended. But a new claimant, in the guise of Peter Pininski, has recently emerged. He claims to be the descendant of Charlotte’s eldest daughter

Charles Edward married the daughter of a French emigré. After her death in 1821, Charles Edward married an Englishwoman; by neither of these marriages did he have any issue.

Caroline Adelaide ROHAN was born in America in 1826

https://www.powells.com/book/a-court-in-exile-9780521584623

He Married and 2nd time to Louisa Constance Smith of England, they traveled the next year to America Where she had many relatives and were she gave birth to a Daughter, Caroline Adelaide Rohan, at least that is the name on her birth certificate which bears her fathers name as well! Interestingly, 2 things happened that are not explained, Louisa disappears from History and Charles Edward returns to Scotland without his Daughter

Queries
* Charles married Louisa Constance Bouchier SMITH in England on 13/12/1826
* Charles and Louisa lived in Europe and she died in 1853 in Paris
* what evidence is there that Caroline born in America is their child? Why was she left in America, when her parents went to Europe from England
* with all the interest in Charles, why has it taken 180+ years to surface? Why are there no academic papers on the topic?

nice summary Leanne

Links to all of these are Geni and each other.

Ok, so the sources are each other sites, not actual sources as yet? no paperwork.?

Can anyone provide any supporting information around this family?

Can someone with a MyHeritage account look at the first record here: https://www.myheritage.com/names/hrh_rohan
This should be the 1870 US census where Caroline Adelaide is mentioned

More problems around Caroline Adelaide:
-Some 'sources' talk about 1825 instead of 1826. Then the child was born before the marriage.
- If she was indeed born in the USA in 1826, then when was the marriage exactly? Are there passengerlists (Ellis Island?) of the couple coming to the USA? And is the time between marriage and birth consistent?
- One of the things that was named above:

https://www.powells.com/book/a-court-in-exile-9780521584623

He Married and 2nd time to Louisa Constance Smith of England, they traveled the next year to America Where she had many relatives and were she gave birth to a Daughter, Caroline Adelaide Rohan, at least that is the name on her birth certificate which bears her fathers name as well! Interestingly, 2 things happened that are not explained, Louisa disappears from History and Charles Edward returns to Scotland without his Daughter

Same on this website:
http://kingjohn2nd.com/

They add the possibility that Louisa died in the USA, therefor claiming that the daughter was left with the family of Louisa. But she died in 1853 in Paris, not in 1826/1827! She didn;t disappear from history.
Also, is it possible to find out if Louisa actually had close family in the USA?

The 1870 census just contains her married name and age.

I looked at a lot of my.heritage trees - none contained any sources except the 1870 census. They cited Geni and Ancestry as sources.

I have detached Brigit Henry from this tree and created a new husband James Henry

https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/67785244/james-henry

Looks like they have just grabbed people and modified the information slightly to make it fit.

I have attached the 1870 census to the Caroline's profile

Sarah Helen OCHTERLONY married Sir James LISTON-FOULIS

Sarah Helen Liston Foulis

I will disconnect Sarah Helen Peregrine from the OCHTERLONY family

Reggie James Henry child James Henry Wapshire is actually James Henry WAPSHIRE 1872-1937
James Henry Wapshire

Jane Ellen Neill
daughter of James Henry Neill and Martha Murdoch
is on Geni as being married to Thomas Cartwright (1850) son of John Cartwright and Hannah Cartwright

Her husband actually married in 1871 to Maria M

http://www.genejeannie.net/familygroups/ind845.html

I will disconnect him from this family

Private User, yes sources are just to each other, no primary or secondary sources other than the 1870 census
