My late grandfather, Hershel Neuman, a Holocaust survivor, had a sister Hencha Neuman, born circa 1910 in Nizhniye Verecky (Veretsky) in Czechoslovakia (modern Ukraine).

Hencha was married with children before the war and she and (i believe) her husband and children all perished.

I don't know her married name, nor the names of her husband or children. So far as I'm aware, no one has written testimonies for them on Yad Vashem's database.

Anyone have ideas of how to go about trying to find out more with such limited information to start?

You can research the Yad Vashem database with a maiden name and a place. Another place is JewishGen, though you might have to give a donation. You can also try the Arolsenfiles.com
Good luck!

Hiya dear David!

Agree with Panni on YV advanced search possibilities but had tried it myself and couldn't find "Hencha/Henche (N.B. other spelling variations could be e.g. Chane/Chana/Khane/Hana/Hani etc. - ALWAYS good to put these under "aka" just in case someone puts in a search under that name ...)

I notice that you do, at least, already have a GENI profile posted for your grandpa Hershel/Herman (Herschel/Hermann? - NEUMANN?) and other family members and suggest that you post as many details as you do have for him/them, such as emigration information, dates of marriage, WHATEVER (N.B.with sources cited and links provided wherever possible - sometimes the tiniest trivia can provide a clue ... eg. New York passenger listings generally show contact people - often further family - at departure & arrival etc. etc.)).

AND I'm wondering whether this might be him:

???

GOOD LUCK from me too!

Thanks Pip de P. James. I tried Yad Vashem with all those names with no success.

The USHMM video is indeed my grandfather. I have the tape and unfortunately he does not discuss his family very much.

I'm afraid this information may be lost to our family forever.

Have you tried searching discussion forums? E.g. JewishGen's? Have you tried sited like LDS?
