Any other proof than the C. Ellis source that John of Guilford is son to Edward Stephans and Anne Crewe? I saw this note that claims he wasn't :( John b. 1622, d. 1643 in England -(Foster's Alumni Oxoniensis, p. 1418) (of Oxford University). This is the son C. Ellis Stevens claimed immigrated to Guilford, Conn. Mrs. C. S. Holmes disproved it. ) If the son of Edward, named John did in fact die in England where did our John come from??

Dates are all mixed up. Here's Ellis:

Stevens genealogy. Some descendants of the Fitz Stephen family in England and New England by Stevens, Charles Ellis, 1853-1906. [from old catalog] Published 1905, [https://archive.org/stream/stevensgenealogy00stev#page/51/mode/2up page 52],

Sir Edward MP died about 1670. His daughter Temperance married by 1657 according to http://www.historyofparliamentonline.org/volume/1660-1690/member/pa... which suggests she was born about 1635.

The article http://www.historyofparliamentonline.org/volume/1660-1690/member/st... has Edward marrying about 1619, and he was born in 1597. So he wasn't having a child at 4 years old; this John Stevens was born about 1603.

Disconnected.

Erica, Exactly! They have Edward born in 1597 and his son born in 1603 right here on Geni!

Thanks for bringing to attention!

Is this a source for the Stephens Genealogy

I know there is an FTDNA yDNA Stephens project as well. My Stephen's first cousin is a part of the project. He matches the old English Glouchestshire

Family -- got cut in the middle of my sentence.

Has a direct Stephens male tested big yDNA and joined the Stephens project from this Stephens line? We came from the Giles Stephens line of Baltimore, MD

Y-DNA. The Y-DNA results in the Stephens-Stevens Y-DNA Testing Project at FTDNA shows one supposed descendant in Haplogroup R-CTS11962, and another supposed descendant in Haplogroup Q-M242. Clearly one of these two descendants is not actually a descendant of John Stephens. Testing of more descendants is needed to clarify in which Haplogroup he actually belongs.
