This one is fairly straightforward: Robert White of Messing, Essex, is not related, as far as is known, to any other White family. His parentage is unknown, and on his marriage license he styled himself a "yeoman". He was probably born in Messing, Essex, but lived most of his life in Shalford.
His religious views seem to have been conventional, with perhaps a little dabbling in Puritanism on the side (he left money to preachers of both Church of England and Puritan persuasions).
His wife, Bridget Allgar, may possibly have been a collateral relative of the Algeres of Brason Head, Lindsell, Essex (Brason Head was a farmhouse noted for an elaborate lion's head door-knocker which is now in the British Museum). The paper trail washes out about two generations back.
Of their nine children, five emigrated to the New World. Four participated in the founding of the Connecticut Colony:
* Mary White (m. Joseph Loomis, Sr.)
* Elizabeth White (m. William Godwin)
* John White - "Elder" John White of Hartford
* Anna "Rosanna" White (m. John Porter, Jr.)
The fifth, Bridget White (m. John/William Christmas), seems to have been persuaded to try Virginia instead.
A grandson, James Bowtell the younger (son of Sarah White m. James Bowtell Sr.), emigrated to Salem, MA.
