Hi everyone.
I have been rersaarching the Batelov Zwacks, particularly the family of Gaspar, also known as Caspar and Kaspar Zwack, 1779-1862.
http://www.geni.com/family-tree/index/6000000028571035542

JewishGen and other sources acredit the following children to Gaspar and his wife Eleanore (also known as Lena) Lowy.
Adam Zwack; Miksa Zwack; Dávid Zwack; Hanni Reiniger; Jakab Zwack; Wolf Zwack; Bernhat Zwack; Nany (Hanny-Hannah?) Zwack; Aaron Zwack; Jetta? Zwack; Moritz Michael Max Zwack; Julie Zwack, and Fanni Zwack

Wolf in that list presents a problem to me, for he seems to dissapear and a Jozsef of about the same age with the same parents appears in his place. All I am looking for is some sort of evidence to affirm that Wolf opted to be known as Jozsef. I have yet to find Jozsef's marriage to Marie Sattler, but if any of you ever find him marrying her as Wolf, that would be all the evidence I need.

On JewishGen, it looks like the marriage record for Joseph and Maria is at LDS 642973, Vol. 26, 57-10

Thanks Randy, Its a useful additional snippet, will have to find that LDS reference, hoping they give the groom's complete birth date and its a match for Wolf.
.

I am also researching the ZWACK family, distant relatives of my SPITZ from Nikolsburg. I am particularly interested in identifying the Dr. Jozsef ZWACK, physician to Hapsburg Emperor Joseph II, who reportedly invented Unicum, the iconic Hungarian liquor. Was Jozsef a brother of Caspar/Gaspar, father of Jozsef, David, Miksa, Mor Mihaly, any other family members who settled in Budapest? Or was he a brother of Caspar's father Adam?

I have replied to you (Vivian Kahn) directly, but also thought I would add those thoughts to this string.

The family of Caspar (also recorded as Kaspar and Gaspar) Zwack of Batelov, Jihlava District, Vysocina Region, Czech Republic was quite large. Other than Wolf born 1821, researches have accounted for every one of Caspar's children. Joseph Zwack, the founder of the Zwack distilleries was also born Batelov c1821 is not listed as a member of that family, but does appear in documents that relate to them. Death notices and marriage registrations and industrial document SUGGEST he was a sibling. As the birth years of Jozsef and Wolf coincide and there were no other Zwack familes living in Batelov, it is presumed but not proven that at some stage Wolf Zwack changed his name to Jozsef.

Small correction. Caspar (son of Adam) had several sisters, and one brother David, so theoretically there could have been other Zwacks in Batelov descended from David. Batelov records however do not show that David (born1800 died 1832) ever married in order to produce children.

Can you provide link to records from Batelov? I'm unable to find anything on the Prague Jewish Museum website.
