Dear cousins--

Alas, you can't believe everything you read on the internet.

Maud Pigot has been detached from this profile before. Maud Pigott and Margaret ____ are different people.

Maud Pigott did not marry George Scott of Bradfield St. George. She married George Scott of Chigwell, Essex

George Scott of Bradfield St. George, Suffolk, names his wife MARGARET in his will.

"To Margaret, his wife £40 and ten milk neat cattle and his two "copies" [copyhold land] for her life and all household stuff."

See the rest of the will on the profile overview tab, or go here:

-------------------------------

You may be thinking, Margaret could have been his second wife. Good point.

HOWEVER, Maud Pigott and her husband, George Scott of CHIGWELL, ESSEX, who died without issue in 1533., left records behind them that allow us to tell them apart from George and Margaret Scott OF BRADFIELD ST. GEORGE, SUFFOLK.

See:

The Visitations of Cambridgeshire, 1575 and 1619, pp. 188-199

Maud is shown with her parents, Thomas Pigott & "Beatrix"Tyrell, in the Pigott tree, where it says:

"Maud Pigott ux. George Scott of Chigwell & of Wooston Hall in Essex." (ux. = wife)

Then see:

The Visitations of Essex by Hawley, 1552; Hervey, 1558; Cooke, 1570 ...

In which it says "George Scott, eldest son of John Scott and Margaret Drax, obiit s.p. (died "sine prole," without children) in 1533."

His heir was his nephew Walter.
