Three quick notes:
- The original name “Salm” referred to the capital of the county, ie a town named Salm, this town is now known as “Vielsalm” and is in Belgium.
- The “Chateau de Salm” is not in Salm/Vielsalm it is in La Broque in the present-day département of Bas-Rhin, Alsace, France.
- "Castle Blâmont”, described by French wiki as the seat of the Salm family, was built at approximately the same time as Chateau de Salm but it is not in Salm either! As the name suggests it is in Blamont in the Lorraine region of France.
