William Fitz Walter, Lord of Welle; living circa 1166 and after 1184; married Rohese, daughter of Walter de Gant, Lord of Folkingham and Bridlington by his wife, Maud of Brittany, Lady of Swaledale, and sister of Gilbert de Gant II, Earl of Lincoln; from William and Rohese descend the de Welles family, summoned to Parliament as Barons from 1299, attainted 1474, created Viscount Welles in 1487 and extinct in 1498.
