About Timothy Dimmock

Torrey show that Dimock married three times: first to Bethia Chipman, the daughter of John Chipman, during the 1690s; second, in about 1700, to an unknown wife by whom he had a daughter Silence; and third to Abigail Doane.[7]

Bethia was the daughter of Elder John Chipman and his wife Hope Howland.[8] In his Will, probated in 1708, John Chipman mentioned "My two grandchildren Mary Gale and Jabez Dimmock...." Mary is supposed to be the daughter of Bethia's first marriage to -- Gale, and Jabez is supposed to be the son of Bethia and her second husband, Timothy Dimmock.[9] In 1713, John's widow Ruth also made a bequest to Jabez "Dimok."[10]

Biography

Timothy Dimock, the son of Shobal Dimock and Joanna Bursley, was born at Barnstable in March, 1658, but there is a note in the text stating: "These Records perhaps 10 years too old."

[1] And Denise M. Milke states that Timothy Dimmock, son of Shubael, was born in March 1668.[2] If, in fact, Shubael was baptized in 1644,

it would have been illogical for him to have had a child in 1658.

"Timothy Dimock and Abigail Doan were Married by captain Jonathan Sparrow the seventeenth Day of march 1702/3"[3] She was the daughter of Daniel Doane of Eastham. Timothy died before March 5, 1718, at Ashford, Connecticut. His widow married, secondly, Benjamin Follett, of Windham, Connecticut, in 1728[4]

Timothy and Abigail had six children born in Mansfield, Connecticut[5]: Timothy, John, Shubael, Daniel, Israel, and Ebenezer.

A number of genealogical writers have stated that Timothy Dimock first married Bethia Chipman, perhaps in about 1690. No evidence has been found to corroborate this marriage. If you have such evidence, please contact a Profile Manager.
