About The Most Reverend Antoine Racine

Intro

Antoine Racine was a priest, bishop and educator. He was ordained in 1844 and consecrated as the first bishop of Sherbrooke in 1874. He undertook huge tasks: creation of a seminary and hospitals, seperation of the co-educational schools, erection of new parishes and the foundation of charities. Across a span of 20 years, he formed 86 priests, created 54 parishes and increased the catholic population of Sherbrooke to 60,000. He traveled to Rome three times and was honoured with titles Roman count and assistant to the papal throne.
