Research Notes

Sir William Wallace of Craigie (b c1507, d 1538) son of Sir William Wallace of Craigie and Riccarton (d 1530) and Elizabeth Campbell (dau of Sir John Campbell of Wester Loudoun) He married Margaret Kennedy (dau of Alexander Kennedy of Bargany). In October 1532, William Wallace of Craigie, was requisitioned to marry Grisel Sempill (d 10.1575, dau of Robert Sempill, 3rd Lord). There is no evidence the marriage took place. And Margaret was his widow (see below) Children: (1) Sir John Wallace of Craigie (b c1530, d 1570) m. Margaret Cunningham (dau of Alexander Cunningham, 5th Earl of Glencairn) (2) William (3) Margaret

On the death of his uncle "the good laird's" only child and heiress, William, son of the tutor of Craigie, became owner of Craigie: he died in 1538. His wife Margaret, only daughter of Alexander Kennedy of Bargeny, subsequently married Gilbert, third Earl of Cassilis. William was succeeded in the lands of Craigie by his brother John, first of Auchans and Dundonald
