Sir Richard Greene Richard "of Stanfford Ryvera" Greene (b. 1527, d. May 03, 1608)Richard "of Stanfford Ryvera" Greene (son of Robert "Lord of Bowridge Hall" Greene and Elizabeth) was born 1527 in Bowridge Hall, Gillingham, County Dorset, England, and died May 03, 1608. He married Joan Converse on 1550 in East Bridford, County Nottingham, England, daughter of William Converse.

Notes for Richard "of Stanfford Ryvera" Greene: Succeeded to Bowridge Hill on the death of his brother, Peter. By his will, dated May 10, 1606, and proved May 3, 1608, he made bequests to his children and grandchildren, and appointed his "son and heir apparent, Richard Greene," his executor. As no record of his burial nor of the baptisms of his elder children is found in the Parish Register of Gillingham, it is probable they were recorded in one of the hamlets of the parish where he resided prior to his succession to the estates of his elder brother.

A final concord was made between RICHARD GRENE, quer., and WILLIAM CONVERS, deforc., about three acres of arable land with the appurtenances in Navestock, the consideration being forty pounds sterling. Feet of Fines, Co. of Essex, Easter Term, 36th Elisabeth. SOURCE: Appendix 5, Page 859

Will of WILLIAM CONVERS, of Stapulford Abbott, co. Essex, yeman. Dated 20 April 1555 I bequeath to the high altar, for tithes forgotten, 3s. 4d. I give to the poor, to be distributed at my burial, 40s. I give my house [? in] Collyard Rroo in the dominion of Havering at Bowre, called Gouldsmythes, with all my lands thereto belonging, to William Converse the younger, my nevye and son of Edward Convers my sonne, late deceased; also all the house I now dwell in called Watters, lying in Stapulford Abbot, and one rood of mede in Lamborne, to enjoy the same, both free and copyhold at his full age of 20 years after my decease and not before. GENERATION 24 Richard "of Stanfford Ryvera" Grene was born Abt. 1527, and died May 03, 1608 all in Bowridge Hall, Gillingham, County Dorset, England. In 1550 Richard married Joan Converse, d/o William*, in East Bridford, County Nottingham, England. Joan was born Abt. 1534 in County Essex, England, and died Bet. 1574-1606. Richard and Joan are buried in the family cemetery of Saint Mary the Virgin Parish Church Cemetery. This couple had at least 8 children: Richard "Lord of Bowridge Hall" b:c1550 (my ancestor, m. Mary Hooker); Robert b:c1552; Peter "of Surry" b:c1558; Katherine b:c1560 (m. Mr. Turner); Agnes b:c1561; John "of Bridgeford" b:c1570; and Mary b:c1574.

In 1545, this Sir Richard Grene appears in the Rolls of the Exchequer.

This Richard GRENE and Joan CONVERSE are my maternal 11th great grandparents.

• I found a transcription of William Convers' (no "E" in his surname) 1555 Will on-line! It names his married "daughter Joan Grene" and also names "Rycharde Grene" as "Overseer" of his Will and goods. I am searching for the "GREENE family" history. Some of my past family may be buried in a cemetery near your church. Would this be true? 

  The name GREENE has been changed several times. At one time it was spelled Grene...the name I am looking for is Richard Grene "of Stanford Ryvera" born about 1527 and died about may 03, 1608 in Bowridge Hall, Gillingham, county Dorset, England. He married Joan Converse.

They are, according to information I have, are buried in the family cemetery of Saint Mary the Virgin Parish Church Cemetery. Other info is of 1545 Richard Grene, appears in the Rolls of the Exchequer. The GREENE family was a branch of the " de la DOUCHE " family and at one time were the largest land owners of England. Gibbon, the historian, said that they had the most royal blood and the most strain of blood in all Europe.  Any info you have or point me in the right direction would be greatly appreciated.
