The Ten pound lands of Prestwickshaws
On 4 January 1500-1 Sir John Somerville of Cambusnethan, here treated, had a charter under the Great Seal of Scotland for the ten pound lands of old extent of Prestwickshaws in the Kyle-Stewart division of Ayrshire, which land was to be held of the King, as Steward of Scotland. Death
Sir John Somerville of Cambusnethan, here treated, was killed in action on 9 September 1513, fighting under the Banner of James IV, King of Scots, at the Battle of Flodden: "obiit in bello de Flowdoun", which was fought near Branxton in the County of Northumberland, in the Kingdom of England. Sir John Somerville, 1st of Cambusnethan was born circa 1457. He was the son of John Somerville, 2nd Lord Somerville and Mariota Baillie. He married Elizabeth Carmichael, daughter of John Carmichael, 1st of Balmedie and Isabel Sibbald, on 3 July 1489. He died on 9 September 1513 at Flodden Field, Northumberland, England, killed in action. He lived at Cambusnethan, Lanarkshire, Scotland. He fought in the Battle of Flodden on 9 September 1513.
