His first wife, Adoa, a Davidic Jewish princess (relative), had two sons: Hisdai I & Baradai;

Her father, Yazdgerd III (also spelled Yazdegerd or Yazdiger, Persian: یزدگرد سوم, "made by God"), was the twenty-ninth and last king of the Sassanid dynasty of Iran and a grandson of Khosrau II (590–628).

His father was Shahryar whose mother was Miriam, the daughter of the Byzantine Emperor Maurice.

The Bahai religious leader Bahá'u'lláh's ancestry can be traced back to Yazdgerd III.

According to one account, the Caliph Omar (father-in-law of Muhammad) confirmed Bustanai as Exilarch of the Jews after the Arabian conquest of Persia, and gave Bustanai the daughter of Chosroes II as his wife, while Omar married her sister. But according to another account, given in Abraham ibn Daud's, Seder ha-Kabbalah (12th century), the Caliph was Muhammad's son-in-law Ali and the father of Bustanai's Persian wife was Yezdagird III.
