About Sarah Stacey

She was not Sahara Virginia Byron. Was she Sarah Mary Hall?

Disputed origins

It is claimed that a British naval commander called James Stacey married a sister of the poet, George Gordon Byron, 6th Baron Byron (b. 1788 London - d. 1824 Missolonghi, Greece). There is no evidence such a woman existed.

Sarah, wife of James Stacey, was not born 1775 in Brookhill Hall. She was not born in 1789 at 24 Holles Street, Harrow, London Borough of Harrow, Greater London, England who died 1825 in England.

She was not born 1783 in Brittany, France. Her name was not Sahara Virginia Byron. She was not the sister of the famous and well studied poet, George Gordon Byron, 6th Baron Byron, FRS (1788-1824), "who is regarded as being among the greatest of British poets." Coronel James Stacey Byron was born in 1795 (see record below). Therefore, his mother was born no earlier than 1780 (her age 15 in 1795). But John "Mad Jack" Byron did not marry Catherine Byron, 13th Lady of Gight until 17 May 1785.

John Byron's first wife "Amelia herself died in 1784 almost exactly a year after the birth of their third child, the poet's half-sister Augusta Mary.[21]". "Byron then married Catherine Gordon, heiress of Gight in Aberdeenshire, Scotland, daughter of George Gordon and Catherine Innes, on 17 May 1785." "In a move to avoid his creditors, Catherine accompanied her husband to France in 1786, but returned to England at the end of 1787 to give birth to her son.[24]"

It is not possible they had a "secret" child in France before they got there and before they married.
