About Sarah Moseley

Biography

Sarah Hancock, daughter of Robert Hancock and his wife, Johana 'Joan' Ligon, was born about 1673 in Lynnhaven Parish, Lower Norfolk County, Virginia Colony and died about November 07, 1726 at about age 54 in Henrico County, Virginia Colony.

Sarah married Arthur Moseley son of Arthur Moseley II and his wife Joan Hancock, and grandson of the emigrant, William Moseley and his wife, Susannah. They were married sometime in October 1688 in St. John's Church, Henrico County, Virginia.

Sarah was Arthur's first cousin, his mother being sister of Sarah's father Robert Hancock.

The Hancocks were neighbors of the Moseleys and the Ligons, and Robert Hancock, a son of Simon Hancock and his wife Sarah, the widow of Gilbert Gaye, was a man of means in the community around Lynnhaven Bay.

Sarah's marriage to Arthur is recorded in Oct 1688/9 in Henrico Marriages p 97. She is mentioned in her mother's (Johan Ligon Hancock) will dated Oct. 1726, probated 2 Nov 1726 indicating that she was still alive at this time.
