About Samuel Westbrook, Sr.

Biography

https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Westbrook-3029

Samuel Westbrook was born in Charles City County, Virginia, in about 1676. He was the eldest of seven children born to Virginia Immigrant Settler James Westbrook and his first wife.[1][2]

Sometime around 1702, Samuel married his first wife, whose name is unknown, but who bore him seven children.[3]

  1. Mary Westbrook, b. Abt. 1703
  2. Ann Westbrook , b. Abt. 1704
  3. Mansfill Westbrook, b. Abt. 1706
  4. William Westbrook, b. Abt. 1708, d. Bef. 11 Jun 1767
  5. Martha Westbrook, b. Abt. 1710, d. Aft. 15 May 1755
  6. James Westbrook, b. 1712, d. 26 Apr 1773
  7. Samuel Westbrook, b. Bef. 1716, d. 1785

In 1723, Samuel settled with his family in Isle of Wight County, Virginia, after acquiring a land grant there.[4]

Later, on October 15, 1741, Samuel relocated his family again after receiving a patent for 900 acres on the north side of the Meherrin River in Southampton County, Virginia.[4]

Samuel passed away sometime after August 13, 1761, at approximately 85 years of age.[3]

Research Notes

In the will of Samuel Westbrook, proved on August 13, 1761, in Southampton County, Virginia, Samuel included his grandson Jacob, along with his sons Samuel, James, and William, and his daughters Ann, Mary Turner, Martha Lowe, and Mansfill Gray. The use of the surname Mansfill (Mansull, Mansfield) as a daughter's given name further supports the theory that James Westbrook’s first wife was one of the sisters of Thomas and Maximillian Mansfield.[3]
