Benjamin was the first minister of the Fourth Church of the West Division. He served 46 years, from 1713-1759, until his death from measles in 1759.
On Dec 3 1713 when he was 23 yrs old he married Ruth Taylor in Longmeadow, Mass. Ruth Taylor was born in 1693 died 30 May 1725, she was 32.
Together they had the following children: 1, Eli b 1716, 2. Ruth b 1718, 3. Theodosia b 1721 4. Benjamin b 1724.
In 1726 when Benjamin was 36 yrs old he married Elisabeth Pitkin, daughter of William Pitkin and Elizabeth Stanley. Elisabeth was born on Aug 18 1689 and died on 11 Oct 1760, she was 71 yrs old. Together they had the following children: Lucina b 1727, Elizabeth b 1728-1812, Abijah b 1731, Esther b 1733 and George b 1736 died 1812
The ornate, elaborate style of his stone was typical of that commonly made for ministers and important figures of the eighteenth-century community. Like Stephen Keyes' stone, it may represent a self-portrait. Information obtained from the historical society.
