About Ralph de Vernon, Rector of Hanwell
Biography
https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Vernon-17
Ralph Vernon, de jure Baron of Shipbrook was the son of Sir Richard de Vernon and brother of Warren (Warin?) Vernon, who died in France and his estates were split between his daughters and his brother Ralph. Ralph at the time was a priest and Rector of Hanwell.
On becoming de jure Baron of Shipbrook, Ralph Vernon set aside his vow of celibacy and produced a son with Cecilia Crew, there was rumoured to be no marriage certificate.
He left further issue by Maud Grosvenor.
Ralph's son, also Ralph (born 1241), was reputed to have lived to such an extraordinary age that he earned the nickname "The Old Liver."[1] His heir was Sir Richard, son of his second marriage to Matilda Grosvenor of Kinderton, Cheshire.
The Barony expired when his grandson Sir Richard, was captured after the Battle of Shrewsbury in 1403 and executed for treason.

Ralph De VERNON (Rector of Hanwell)
Born: ABT 1221
Died: 1270
Notes: Rector of Hanwell, quietly set aside his vow of celibacy and made a match of it with Cecilia Crew (Lysons says there was no marriage certificate), and became the father of a son, who has given to the pedigree of the Shipbroke branch of his race that air of mystery and delicacy usually spoken of with incredulity and whisper. But it appears there was a buxom widow, Maud Grosvenor, by whom he also had issue. This Ralph wrested barony from his nieces, becoming de jure Baron of Shipbrook (magnate, not member of peerage).
