About Pisquoponok Fredericks
Pisquoponok Fredricks was a Menominee Indian woman of the Menominee Indian Tribe of Wisconsin
Mamaceqtaw (Menominee) Treaty Lands by the Wisconsin Cartographer’s Guild
Thirty-four clans, grouped into five distinct divisions called brothers, characterized traditional Menominee society in their homeland of what is now Wisconsin. Menominee culture developed the clan system to address vital issues that the tribe faced.
The Bear assumed the duties of civil administration throughout the tribe. The Eagle took as its lot war, fire carrying, and camp laborers. The Wolf pursued hunting, and the Crane, construction obligations. The Moose accepted as his duty camp security, overseeing of the wild rice beds, and supervising rice harvest and distribution.

Biography:
Pisquoponok Fredricks was born c.1886 to unknown parents in Wisconsin. Indian census reports show her as married from 1919 through 1929, both before and after she was admitted to the Canton Asylum. Still, these same census reports do NOT identify her husband, nor is it suggested that she had any children.
In the book Vanished in Hiawatha, author Carla Joinson suggests only that she was mentioned in fiscal years 1926 and 1930, but she is identified in the Canton female censuses from 1923 through 1932. She died at the Canton Asylum on March 30, 1932, of lobar pneumonia, but there is no record of her being buried in the Hiawatha Cemetery. Her remains were likely returned home to Wisconsin, but I find no records yet.
Curator Note:Despite what seems to be extensive documentation below, there are very few details about Pisquoponok Fredricks as a person.
Her profile is part of the https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Space:Canton_Asylum.
Research Notes:
-Pisquoponok disappeared from the Canton female census in the June 30, 1932 report
-single on June 30, 1918, married on June 30, 1919
