About Per Cavat
He served as a soldier at Målilla under the soldier's name Cavat (bold. plucky).
Antagen som soldat på roten 1717-09-23. Avsked 1724-10-31.
Cavat seems to have been the military surname customarily used for soldiers at Gårdveda in Målilla in the Royal Kalmar Regiment. The four Cavats listed in the Centrala Soldatregistret all came from that unit.
- Pehr Pehrsson Cavat, born 1698
- Sune Amundsson Cavat, born 19 September 1705, died 5 july 1742
- Magnus Sunesson Cavat, born 1728 (perhaps son of his predecessor)
- Pär Nilsson Cavat, died 19 July 1743
Although military surnames were not hereditary, there is some possibility that Per Cavat was related to Petter Jonsson Cavat at Gärdserum. None of the Cavat soldiers at Målilla were named Johan or Jonas, so none would have been father of Petter Jonsson Cavat. Petter's son Jonas Svanström is said to have been related (in some unknown way) to Eric Gerdeman. Gerdeman's cousin Jonas Gelsenius was married to Kristen Phoenix, whose grandfather Johannes Benedicti Phoenix was vicar of Dalhem (1623), and Målilla (1631). This Per Cavat could have been a brother of Ingeborg Persdotter Svanström, and an uncle of Petter Cavat.
