He married three times: firstly to Sancha de Ortanega, without issue, secondly to María González Girón, daughter of Rodrigo Ruíz Girón, Rico Hombre of Castile, and second wife, as her second husband, Marquesa de Villalobos, and thirdly to Maria Mendes de Sousa, only daughter of Mem Gonçalves de Sousa and wife Teresa Afonso de Meneses, without issue. By his second wife he had an only son, Gil Alfonso de León.
