Note: Jacque Cardinal (aka Moos-tah-tip) applied for metis script on 13 August 1886. He made his declaration under oath at Lac La Biche on that date. He could not sign his name but he made his mark. His application was supported by Charles Quintal and Pierre Ladouceur, both said to be of Lac La Biche, who could not sign their names but made their marks. According to the declaration he made he was the son of a ”French Cardinal” named Mattihpakkoosh (Matchi-pa-koos) and his wife Lizette, a half-breed Maskegon (Swampy Cree) woman. In his declaration he says that he was born at Moose Mountain near Pitt in 1797, and he had lived in the North West Territories all of his life. On 15 July 1870 he was living at the Mission at Lac La Biche, on the south side of the Lake, in ceded territory. Up until the time of his metis script application he had been employed as a hunter. Jacque Cardinal married a Cree woman named Josephte at Lac La Biche in 1814 and they had five children who were still living: Antoine, Joseph, Francois, Euphraisine, and Josephte. Jacque Cardinal married a second wife at Lac La Biche in 1820, a half-breed Maskegon (Swampy Cree) woman named Marguerite Desjarlais. Jacque Cardinal and Marguerite Desjarlais had three children who were still living: Aubichon, Eminan, and Genevieve. His second wife also died before 13 August 1886. A Metis Script Certificate in the value of $160 dollars was issued to Jacque Cardinal at Lac La Biche on 13 August 1886.
