NRS: GD3/1/1/83/1 According to Stirnet, she is the daughter of John Hamilton, first of Broomhill, and his wife Janet Hamilton. Stirnet: Hamilton 04 John Anderson had a different opinion. He said that she was the daughter of John Hamilton, first of Broomhill, and his wife Elizabeth Hamilton. However, it seems that he confused the first Laird with the second Laird. 27 September 1557: Charter granted by Gavin, perpetual commendator and the convent of the monastery of Kilwinning of the Order of St Benedict in the diocese of Glasgow in favour of Margaret Hamilton, daughter of deceased John Hamilton of Brounehill, in liferent for all the days of her life and of Gavin Hamilton, her son his heirs and assignees in fee of an annualrent of 16 bolls of oatmeal and 4 bolls of beir, good and sufficient stuff to be yearly uplifted from of the 3lib land of old extent of Auchintiber Over lying in the parish and regality of Kilwinning, bailliary of Cunningham and sheriffdom of Ayr: to hold of them and their successors in fee for payment yearly of £5 6s 8d as the old feu duty used and wont to be paid together with 16 pennies in augmentation of the rental extending in whole to 5lib 8s Scots at two yearly terms Whitsunday and Martinmas by equal portions Dated at Kilwinning.
