Margaret Chudleigh

Oliver Wise died about 1509 - before 1510. His widow remarried in 1510 to Sir James Chudleigh of Ashton. Sir James' daughter (by a previous marriage), Mary Chudleigh, later married Oliver Wise's oldest son, John Wise, Esquire. They lived at Mount Wise, located next to the city of Plymouth (Stoke Damerel parish), Devonshire, England. Margaret (Tremayne) Wise Chudleigh had 2 more children with Sir James Chudleigh and died in about 1514.

Margaret Tremayne was daughter and heiress of John Tremayne of Collacombe Manor, located near the village of Lamerton: a parish in Lifton Hundred, the Archdeaconry of Totnes and the Diocese of Exeter, County of Devon, south-west England. She was born ca. 1458 and her mother was Jane de la Warre. The Tremaynes were an old landed-gentry family from Devonshire and had important land-holdings around Tavistock, north of Plymouth.

In 1487, Margaret Tremayne married Oliver Wise (aka Wyse), son of Sir John Wise and Thomasine Fulford, b. ca. 1456 at Mount Wise, in Stoke Damerel parish, adjacent to the city of Plymouth, Devonshire, England. They married in 1487 during the English civil war called the War of the Roses that plagued the land for more than 30 years, decimating its nobility and ruining many notable families as the fortunes of war brought different men to the throne.

4. John Wise, b. 1492 - m. (1) Mary Chudleigh of Ashton, (2) Dorothy Leigh of South Molton, and (3) Ann Mathew of Wales. He had children by all 3 wives.
5. Oliver Wise, b. 1500 - no genealogy; may have died young

Oliver Wise died in 1510 at 42 years old. His widow, Margaret Tremayne, remarried as the 2nd wife of Sir James Chudleigh of Ashton, Devonshire. Sir James and Margaret (Tremayne) Chudleigh had 2 sons together: [4]

1. Robert Chudleigh, b. ca. 1511
2. John Chudleigh, b. ca. 1513

Margaret Tremayne, Wise, Chudleigh died shortly after her son, John Chudleigh, was born. Her husband, Sir James Chudleigh, remarried to a 3rd wife: Christian, daughter of Sir John Powlet (Paulet/Poulett). They had no children and he died shortly after their marriage, ca. 1516.
