About Ketel FitzEldred "Taillebois" de Kendal, 3rd Baron Of Kendal
Ketel, son of Elftred, appears on the pedigree drawn from the 1615 and 1666 Visitations of Cumberland and Westmorland Counties. He was born bef.1070 in Workington, Cumberland, England, and died 1120-1150 in either Kendal, Westmoreland, England or Seton, Scotland. His wife is listed on the Visitation pedigree as Christiana. In other sources, it is listed as Beatrix de Talboise (though this is probably a generational mix-up, and she was instead his mother). The name Ketel is also found spelled as Ketil, Chetil and Ketellus.
Richard Borthwick cites a reconstruction of this area by G. Washington in "The Parentage of William de Lancaster, Lord of Kendal" in 'Transactions of the Cumberland and Westmorland Antiquarian and Archeological Society', LXII (1962), 95-100, incorporating as Part II, a section written by G. Andrews Moriarty. In this reconstruction Christina is daughter of Ivo de Taillebois by Lucy of Mercia and marries Ketel, son of Eldred of Workington. It is through marriage to Christina, daughter of Ivo 1st Baron of Kendal that the Barony of Kendal is brought into the family, not through Eldred. However, the much-respected work of K.S.B. Keats-Rohan, in Domesday Descendants, p. 881, posits Ketel as the son of Eldred and a daughter of Ivo de Taillebois, and it is this lineage that our Geni tree shows.
Ketel is the father of Orm who married Gunhilda/Gunnilda. However Orm cannot be born too much after 1075, because he marries Gunnilda de Dunbar, whose father died in 1074. Since Christina de Taillebois, could not have been born before 1086, it makes most sense to place Orm as the son of an "Unknown First Wife or Mistress." It also has the added benefit of explaining why Gilbert (a younger son) became the next Baron of Kendal, rather than Orm (the elder son), who was the son of a prior mistress.
The barony of Kendal was granted to Ivo de Taillebois (1st Baron), by William Rufus and during the reign of Henry I, it passed to Ketel (2nd Baron), son of Eldred, lord of Workington. Ketel was followed by his son Gilbert (3rd Baron) and Gilbert by his son William of Lancaster.

FILIUS ELDRED, KETEL: Son of Eldred and a daughter of Ivo Taillcbois (q.v.), some of whose land in the barony of Kendal he inherited. Benefactor of the abbey of St Bees, founded 1120, to which he gave land in Morland and Workington (Register St Bees, pp. 233 -34, no. 212) with the assent of his wife Christiana and son William. Father also of Orm, whose son Gospatric was his eventual heir. His grant of land to St Leonard's, York, was confirmed by his sister's son William fitz Gilbert of Lancaster (q.v.). He died several years after 1120. G. Washington, The parentage of William de Lancaster, lord of Kendal', Transactions Cumberland & Westmorland Antiquarian & Archaeological Society 62 (1962).
