Biography

Joseph Mansfield, Jr., was born in Lynn, Massachusetts, on March 20, 1660 ("20 : 1 m : 1660"), the son of Joseph Mansfield and Elizabeth Needham.[1][2][3]

He married Elizabeth Williams, daughter of Izaak and Margery (Collins) Williams, of Salem, Massachusetts, in Lynn on April 1, 1678. Joseph inherited, by his father's will, the old homestead on Boston Street, where he no doubt lived and died. He was constable of Lynn, June 10, 1700, as appears from an item of that date in the "Lynn Town Account Book of Debts."[1][4]

Joseph Mansfield, Jr., died in Lynn on June 2, 1739, at the age of 79 ("in the 84 year of his age" - Gravestone). He is buried at the Western Burial Ground in Lynn, where his gravestone reads:

Here lyes buried the body of Mr. Joseph Mansfield, Deceas'd June ye 2d 1739, in the 84th year of his age.

"Inscriptions from the old buying ground, Lynn, Mass." by Moulten, 1886, p. 69.
