About John Hightower
Not the same as Oldham Hightower, Sr.
John Hightower was the son of Augustine (Austin) Hightower and his first wife Jane Oldham. John moved from Orange County, North Carolina to then Wilkes County, Georgia about 1784. He and his family later removed to what is now the northern part of Greenville County, South Carolina. John's exact year of birth is not known but most researchers agree it falls in the range of 1742-1745. His year death can be verified using Greenville County, S.C. probate records. He has been placed in this cemetery as (1) the cemetery lies on land he once owned. (2) At least two of his children,one of the spouses of his children and one of his grandchildren have marked graves in the cemetery.
