About John, Constable of Chester, Baron of Halton
http://fmg.ac/Projects/MedLands/ENGLISHNOBILITYMEDIEVAL3T-Z.htm#Ric...
He was never known as "de Lacy". His mother inherited the Lacy estates from her cousin after his death.
John de Lacy (1150, Lincoln, – 1190, Palestine) was the father of Baron Roger de Lacy. He was Lord of Flamborough [not true] and Constable of Chester. The son of Richard FitzEustace. He was a Governor in Ireland for Henry II. Being a patron of science, he maintained an astronomer at Halton Castle. He founded a Cistercian monastery at Stanlow.[9] In 1190 he granted the second known charter for a ferry at Runcorn Gap. He served with Richard I in the Third Crusade and died at the siege of Tyre.[11] From http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Barony_of_Halton#6_John_FitzRichard:
6 John FitzRichard (1171-1190)

NOTE: According to Wikipedia, his son was the one who adopted the de Lacy surname.
Roger Fitzrichard who was the founder of the Priory of Langley in Norfolk
He then married Albreda, daughter of Robert de Lissours and granddaughter to Robert de Lacy. (Lord of Pontefract who is my first cousin 30 times removed).
They had three children
- John (who was a de Lacy from his mathernal side),
- Roger (Lord of Warkworth Manor) and
- Aubrey, who married Henry Bisset
