When both his parents died (Claas c 1728 and Aletta on 30 Sept. 1729), Johannes was 21 years old and was made the custodian of his brothers Willem and Claas. His half brother, Marthinus van Staden was married to Catharina Botha, and Johannes married her younger sister Anna Margaretha Botha on 27 Aug 1730 in Cape Town. ____________________________________________________________
