Darryl Lundy's Peerage claims that Janet Crichton, here treated, is the granddaughter of a man named John Crichton, and a wife named Christian Grenislaw, and that she was the daughter of Patrick Crichton, who was their son.Evidence whivh might support this claim is not identified, but it appears to have been founded upon information byTim Boyle, who sent it by email to Darryl Lundy. According to the Scots Peerage, Janet Crichton, here, treated, is the dughter of Patrick Crichton of Cranstoun-Riddell. The evidence cited confirms that John, Earl of Mortoun, married a lady named Janet Crichton, RMS: 3066 but it does not identify the name of her father. The Scots Peerage VII: 358

22 February 1506-07: Charter by which James IV, King of Scots, confirms that he has given the lands of Abirdour in the regality of Dalkeith and sheriffdom of Fife, to John, Earl of Mortoun, and his wife Jonete Creichtoun, to be held by them in conjunct fee and liferent, and by their male heirs, whom failing by the Earl's nearest heirs whatsover. The Earl of Mortoun had previously resigned this land into the king's hands in order to obtain a new grant in favour of himself and his wife. RMS, 1424-1513: 3066

Janet Crichton was the daughter of Sir Patrick Crichton.

She married John Douglas, 2nd Earl of Morton, son of James Douglas, 1st Earl of Morton and Joan Stewart, before 1493[1],[2]

As a result of her marriage, Janet Crichton was styled as Countess of Morton before 1493. From before 1493, her married name became Douglas.[1][2]

She died after 1515.[1]
