About Jane Patrick Montgomery
There is some debate over the surname of Hugh's wife. It has been listed 3 ways: Jane Hamilton, Jane Edgar and Jane Patrick. Until definitive proof is provided, we will show her as Jane Edgar, based on the Trimble book. JCM.
Please join this project on FTDNA - I'm kin Maternally and Paternally to both lineages of The Montgomery Clan- this may help us sort this out. [https://www.familytreedna.com/groups/your-scottish-ancestry/dna-res...] You will need full mtdna and BigYdna testing with FTNDA and Scottish Heritage.
Jane Montgomery's surname has been given as Edgar and Patrick by various researchers. There were Patricks associated with Hessilhead, Scotland where this line of Montgomerys is said to have originated and there are Patricks buried in the environs of Hessilhead. David B. Trimble's book, "Montgomery and James of Southwest Virgina", gives Hugh's wife as Jane Edgar, which is accepted by many Montgomery descendants, although remains unproven.
