7. HEINRICH von Braunschweig ([1289]-[10 Apr/8 Jun] 1351, bur Grubenhagen). A charter of Duke Heinrich dated 21 Sep 1309 names three sons “Henricus, Ernestus, Wilhelmus” and three daughters “Alsine, Alheidis, Facie”[219]. Botho’s Chronicon Brunsvicensium Picturatum names “Hindrick” third of the four sons of “Hertoghe Hinrick...Hertoghen Albrechtes sone to Brunswick” and his wife[220]. “Widekind von Garsnebutle” and others granted reversion of property to “Hertoghe Hinrich von Bruneswich...siner husvrowen Hertoghinnen Agnesen...sinen sune Hinrike” by charter dated 7 Sep 1318[221]. He succeeded his father in 1322 as HEINRICH II "der Junge" Herzog von Braunschweig-Grubenhagen. “Johannes hertoghen Hinrikes sone von Brunswich...domhere to Megenze unde to Munstere” renounced his father’s inheritance in favour of “Hinrich, Ernest un Wilhelm unse brodere” by charter dated 17 Mar 1325[222]. “Hertoghe Ernest van Brunswich” mortgaged a third part of “des hufes Gheueldehusen” to “Hertoghen Hinriche von Brunswich unsem brotere un...Hedewighe siner husvrowen” by charter dated 7 Jan 1334[223].

m firstly (before 16 Apr 1318) JUTTA von Brandenburg, daughter of HEINRICH I "Ohne Land" Markgraf von Brandenburg [Askanier] & his wife Agnes von Bayern ([1299/1306]-[15 Jul 1325/early Feb 1327]). Her parentage and marriage are confirmed by the charter dated 16 Apr 1318 under which Burchard Archbishop of Magdeburg agreed an alliance with “Agn der Margreuinen von Brandenborch unde tu Landesberch” with the consent of “hertoghen Hinrike von Brunswik erem swaghere”[224]. The primary source which confirms her name has not been identified.

m secondly (23 Aug 1330) HELVIS Ibelin, daughter of PHILIPPE Ibelin Seneschal of Cyprus and Jerusalem & his second wife Zabel of Lampron (1307-after 25 May 1347). The Chronicle of Amadi records the arrival in Cyprus from Germany 23 Aug, in 1330 from the context, of "Henrico duca de Verzvic et signor della terra de Oro" for his marriage to "madona Chielvis de Iblim, figliola de messer Philippo, olim sinescalco de Cypro" whom he took back with him to Germany[225]. “Hertoghe Ernest van Brunswich” mortgaged a third part of “des hufes Gheueldehusen” to “Hertoghen Hinriche von Brunswich unsem brotere un...Hedewighe siner husvrowen” by charter dated 7 Jan 1334[226]. Leben[Bearbeiten | Quelltext bearbeiten] Er war ein Sohn Heinrichs des Wunderlichen und dessen Frau Agnes, geb. Markgräfin von Meißen.

  • Er hatte mit seiner ersten Frau Jutta, Tochter des Markgrafen Heinrichs von Brandenburg-Landsberg folgende Kinder:
  1. Riddag (Sohn; † um 1366)
  2. Agnes (* 1318, † vor 1371), ⚭ Barnim III. (Pommern)
  3. Otto (1320–1399), Condottiere in Italien, Fürst von Tarent, ⚭ Königin Johanna I. von Neapel
  4. Johann (* 1321; † 1371), Kanoniker in Halberstadt
  5. Louis (* um 1323, † vor 1373), Kanoniker in Cammin

Mit seiner zweiten Frau, Heilwig, einer Tochter des Philipp von Ibelin aus dem Haus Ibelin hatte er folgende Kinder:

  1. Philip (* um 1332; † zwischen 1370 und 1380), Konstabler von Jerusalem
  2. Balthasar (* 1336; † 1385), kurzzeitig Despot von Romania in der Morea, ⚭ Giacobella Caetani di Fondi († nach 25. Mai 1400)
  3. Thomas (c. 1338 – c. 1384), Augustiner-Mönch in Nordhausen
  4. Melchior, Bischof von Osnabrück und Schwerin (* um 1341; † 6. Juni 1381)

Den Mannesstamm des Geschlechts hat, zumindest in der Heimat, keiner der Söhne fortgesetzt. Sein ältester Sohn Otto machte in Italien Karriere.
