About Harriet Coates, Convict "Lloyds" 1845
Harriet MARSHALL was transported for stealing half a crown and other money from a person, a Mr. David Weinberg, at Wakefield Quarter Sessions on the 3rd March 1845. She was sentenced for 10 years and to be transported to Van Diemen’s Land (Tasmania).
She was transported on the ship “Lloyds” which left the port Woolwich on the 23rd July 1845 and arrived at Hobart on the 7th November 1845. Age on arrival was 26 years old, her convict trade being a Housemaid and her native land being Doncaster, Yorkshire, England.
Harriet applied and was granted an application to marry on the 31st August 1847, the convict Edward COTES who was sentenced to 7 years for stealing 12 cheeses along with William Watson and was transported to Tasmania on the ship "Eden". They married on the 4th October 1847, at St George's Anglican Church, Battery Point, Hobart.
On the 20th June 1889, Harriet passed away at her residence, Barrow-street, Launceston, aged 78 years and was buried 2 days later (22nd June 1889) at Cypress Street Anglican Cemetery.
