Many a young soldier will return to feel the passing of George Henry William Long, former Secretary of the Metropolitan Water Supply, Sewerage and Drainage Board, a kindly man, with a practical head for figures and an aesthetic soul for the beautiful , things of life, including the garden of the home he loved at the corner of Labouchere road and Gardiner street, South Perth, where his soul-mate and widow, ministering angel in the last few months of his lingering illness, survives him and walks among the little shrub-and-flower-sanctuary which he nurtured into growth and shape with his own hands and which is now hallowed ground to her.
