Daughter of Julien Capel and of Laurence Leconte, Françoise was born around 1626 in Cesny-aux-Vignes (St-Pierre) in Normandie (Calvados 14149) [1] (40 in 1666 and 1667, 53 in 1681 on censuses)

It is unknown on which ship Françoise arrived in the colony, some say she arrived at the same time as Jeanne Mance, unverifiable, the passenger lists are missing for the period. Marcel Trudel places her arrival in 1650, she was a postulant with the Ursulines.[2]

On 30 December 1650, the Ursulines concent in Québec city took fire, and was totally destroyed.[3][4]

Françoise Capel, sister St-Michel, left the Ursulines convent on 3 May 1651 and went to lodge in the home of Mademoiselle de Grandmaison).[5]

Marriage
A marriage contract under private seal was done on 25 April 1651 between Jean Turcot and Françoise Capel.[6] The marriage as such must have been done after May 3rd, date of departure of Françoise from the Ursulines convent.[5] The marriage act itself is lost.

Jean Turcot is among the men killed or made captive by the Iroquois on 19 August 1652 in Trois-Rivières.[6][5]

Marriage 2
On 9 November 1653 in Trois-Rivières, before notary Séverin Ameau, was done a marriage contract between Jacques Lucas dit Lespine, of the parish of Port, in Normandie, son of Martin Lucas dit Lespine and of Renée Houbert, with Françoise Capelle, widow of the late Jean Turcot, daughter of Julien Capelle and of Laurence le Comte, from Chaisniauvigne (?), in Normandie.[8] The marriage act as such is lost.

  2. François Lucas, born 24 Feb 1658, baptized 14 March in Trois-Rivières[10]; François will marry Madeleine Bodouin on 12 Jan 1695 in Champlain.[11]

On 12 September 1659 Jacques Lucas dit L'Épine is kileld in Trois-Rivières by the Iroquois.[5]

Marriage 3
On 1 February 1660 in Trois-Rivières, before notary Séverin Ameau, a marriage contract was done between Jacques Marchand and Françoise Capelle, widow of Jacques Lucas.[8] Again, the marriage act itself is lost.
