About Elizabeth J. Jacks

She was a widow (Elizabeth Walters) when she married John Jacks. Many genealogists believe that her maiden name was Huett and that she was a sister of Thomas Huett.

Anne Arundel Co. Maryland Judgments 1702-1793 shows a court order, under which the Court binds unto Thomas Jacks and Elizabeth his wife, Robert Huit, Jacob Huit, and Hannah Huit, children of Robert and Elizabeth Huitt, deceased . . . until the age of 21 years. . . . In consideration whereof the said Thomas Jacks and Elizabeth his wife obliges themselves to find them with sufficient meat, drink, washing cloathing and lodging, and too give each of them good suit of cloaths at the expiration of their time of servitude and also to use their endeavour to learn them-to read and write wherefore it is considered by the justices here that the said Robert, Jacob, Edward and Hannah serve the said Thomas Jacks and Elizabeth his wife the term afd. Accordingly-Jn Brice, Clk.

Sources

Both Thomas and Elizabeth are believed to have been born in Ann Arundel County, married there, raised their children there and died there. Elizabeth's date of death is unknown. Thomas was either a planter or shoemaker or perhaps both. They were both members of the Church of England.
