About Elizabeth Bolling
THIS IS ELIZABETH BLAIR also known as Elizabeth Blair Bolling Bland. She was not named Mary Elizabeth Bolling, Mary Bolling also known as Mary Bolling Bland, was her daughter She also is not the same as Elizabeth Bolling who became Elizabeth Bolling Robertson, that was THIS Elizabeth's granddaughter.
Elizabeth Blair was the daughter of Colonel Archibald Blair, as well as the niece of Rev. Dr. James Blair, the Commissary to the Bishop of London. She married Maj. John Bolling, II, son of Colonel John Bolling and wife Mary Kennon. They had seven children who reached maturity and eleven who did not. After the death of her 1st husband, John Bolling in 1757, she married the twice widowed Richard Bland II in 1760. They had no children together, however, Elizabeth's daughter Mary Bolling married Blands son, Richard Bland III. At the time of her death, Elizabeth Blair was no longer Mrs Bolling but Mrs. Elizabeth Bland. Contrary to popular belief, she was not buried at Cobbs Cemetery but at Bland Cemetery at Jordan's Point Plantation, in Prince George County, Virginia. The Elizabeth Bolling buried at Cobbs Cemetery is Elizabeth Bolling Robertson , the granddaughter of Elizabeth Blair Bolling Bland.
The "mysterious" Bollings a.k.a. "Blue" Bollings, are twelve extra children supposedly of Major John Bolling and Elizabeth Blair. Alas! A most numerous and enthusiastic contingent, but actually no relation. Major John Bolling and Elizabeth Blair had seven children who survived to adulthood, and another eleven who died as infants.
The "blue" Bollings are yet another twelve children whose descendants claim are members of this family and thus, descendants of Pocahontas . That claim has been rejected by the Pocahontas Foundation, using standard genealogical methods. Paternal DNA tests concur that they are not Pocahontas descendants, and also show that they are several distinct, unrelated families. Refer to http://pocahontas.morenus.org/poca_gen.html for a list of descendants approved by the Pocahontas Foundation.
