About Edward Birkett
"Ellen Hart was four years old on 9 August 1841 when she and her family arrived at Wellington in New Zealand on board the Tyne. The ship’s passengers were lowered in a basket to a waiting boat, then carried on the shoulders of sailors from the boat to the shore. It was still the time of the Musket Wars (1818-1842) in New Zealand, and New Zealand’s founding document Te Tiriti o Waitangi (Treaty of Waitangi) had been signed between Māori chiefs and representatives of the British Crown just the year before. Ellen was my third great grandmother." Read the full biography by Debbie McCauley at this link: https://debbiemccauleyauthor.wordpress.com/biographies/ellen-birket...
